In Forgiveness, Gratitude Grows Linda Berry
Do you have challenges with forgiveness? In many of us, the word "forgiveness" will generate resistance within.
Forgiving feels as though we are condoning a behavior we feel should not be encouraged. Often, the feeling that someone got away with something at our expense, will surface. At times, our pain is just too great to consider forgiveness. These are not exceptional responses to the prospect of forgiving. They are, however, very expensive.

First, appreciate that forgiveness is required for freedom from negative thought, and negative inner dialogue is a thief of our happiness. Then, make a choice in favor of happiness. You are what you focus upon. In my awareness, these two beliefs; 1) forgiveness is freeing, and 2) we are what we focus upon, are clear. They are without doubt, the most interesting concepts I have attempted to internalize while on this journey. They are powerfully strong investments in my happiness.
Only in recent years, a recurring feeling has permeated my presence. The feeling is "Gratitude." I have come to realize that gratitude is the foundation upon which all positive experience is built. I have come to believe that when gratitude becomes my priority, forgiveness follows. I offer to you: · If forgiveness is eluding you.... · If you find yourself riveted with anger and resentment. · If you are spending your life force on an emotion that harms only you... ...you require the ability to hold gratitude for whatever is currently interfering with your peace. Instead of drinking poison while expecting the person you are angry with to suffer, discover a way the say "Thank you," and continue your life, in joy. We have all had experiences that, at the time, seemed to be senseless, cruel, unfair, and deserving of our anger and resentment. Life holds a wide variety of occurrences, and some do indeed seem unbearable. I offer that even the harshest of our experiences hold benefit.
Our task is to find the benefit, for which we can hold gratitude. *Easier Done than Said* Our task is to find the benefit for which we can hold gratitude. I compassionately suggest that the benefit is always there. In the most extreme of catastrophic events, in our greatest heartaches, there is an element for which we can hold gratitude. · This quest often requires courage and patience. · This sometimes requires the fullness of time. · This always requires that we let go of our attachment to having been wronged. · This requires the ability to become an observer of ourselves · This is worth our effort 100%25 of the time. When we are able to become the "observer" and embrace the benefit.... forgiveness flows. We find that we once again are surrendering to trust in the process. The feelings of resentment and anger that had robbed us of our life force, have been diluted and washed away by the thankfulness that we are experiencing. When we allow ourselves to be wrapped in the thought that preciselywhat we require for our own best learning, is being lovingly delivered to us, we can accept the unfathomable. When we actively feel appreciation for our life's progression, and what that progression has made of us, it is an exercise in ease to gratefully embrace the events, the actions of others, and the unfolding of time that has brought us this far. You are what you focus upon. Allow gratitude to be your focus Gratitude is the foundation upon which all positive experience is built. In gratitude, forgiveness is accomplished with ease.
