"Temperaments & Strengths of Presidents"

Emotional Intelligence: 10th Anniversary Edition; Why It Can Matter More Than IQ
by Daniel Goleman

This book just confirms that - intelligence, that is "book smarts", is just ONE piece of what contributes to a person's overall success in life- and in no way guarantees anything. You can be the smartest person in the world, but if you don't have other qualities like self-esteem or persistence- well, there's a good chance that you won't be happy. Case in point, there is no scientific literature linking IQ or academic ability to happiness levels. This book does a good job of elaborating on the idea that intelligence will only get you so far in life- and spends its time telling you why.

No matter how smart or talented one may be, if you haven't "Emotional Intelligence" you might be going around and around in circles in your life and career. After reading this book one can see themselves in a more brilliant and harmonious light. As much as we worship cognitive, it is our emotional E.Q. that is the rudder of the boat.

We are responsible for how we approach and respond to all situations, regardless. Just because a person is a jerk doesn't justify being a jerk to that person. Do not let the other person control your behavior.

If the idea of improving your life is to a look at the emotional side of things.

What is President Obama's Temperament?

It is widely accepted of John McCain's Temperament number; we called eight (8). In the last election he spent months positioning himself as the heir to Ronald Reagan's conservative movement. Poll data, however, show that Obama better embodies more of Reagan's key personality traits, than McCain. It is widely accepted the Ronald Reagan has the Temperament number; we call nine (9).

In 2008, the California-based E-Poll Market Research conducted monthly surveys of more than 1,000 voting-age men and women nationwide. This survey firm has no knowledge of the Enneagram or the Temperament Types and was not trying to determine such. Each person in the sample is given a list of 46 attributes and is asked to say which of these traits he or she believes applies to a given celebrities including the then presidential candidates. The survey compares these two candidates with other celebrities based on five character traits:

1. Articulate
2. Intelligent
3. Confidence
4. Experienced
5. Influential

Obama's closest match was Reagan. In fact, the two politicians share identical or near-identical ratings on Intelligence and Confidence. While most respondents label both Obama and Reagan as confident and intelligent, the attribute on which they differ most highlights a different issue for Obama was: experience.
