This Is Your Brain On Joy by Dr. Earl Henslin is a cogent appeal for the use of diagnostic "brain imaging" as a foundational step in understanding and treating mental, emotional, and behavioral problems.

In This Is Your Brain On Joy, Dr. Henslin guides readers through a series of questions designed to uncover potential areas of over-functioning and sub-functioning in any of the five "rooms" of the brain. Then, he outlines how behavior, mood, and relationships are affected by improper blood flow to various parts of the brain.

He suggests that certain brain chemistries make joy, contentment, self-control, and other expressions impossible without physical healing of the brain, which he maintains is often possible through a combination of nutrition, exercise, supplements, and in some cases, medication.

Dr. Henslin includes a series of brain photographs throughout the book, providing a poignant and often gripping representation of minds pocked and dented by injuries and chemical imbalances. He goes on to show the physical changes in the same brains after he used SPECT (Single Photon Emission Computed Tomography) imaging to design and implement appropriate therapies. Surprisingly readable, the book is full of touching examples of lives profoundly changed, from hateful, abusive geriatrics to raging, inconsolable little girls.

Temperament 4– The members of this Temperament are withdrawing from doing the ordinary. The drive is to express their individual uniqueness by doing what they feel instead of what's required. There is also an avoidance of doing because it may reveal their inadequacies and defective self and thus contradict the special self-image that they may have created. The preference is for feeling instead of doing. We call members of this Temperament - Authentic – Originals. Temperament Four examples are: Michael Jackson, Johnny Depp, Nicolas Cage, Neil Diamond, and Angelina Jolie. These people want to be unique individuals with lots of originality. They enjoy putting their personal touch on everything in which they are involved. They also value beauty and want to make the world a more beautiful place to live.

Temperament 5 – The members of this Temperament are withdrawing from doing or involvement in activities. It's a movement away from being too overwhelmed by the world, some time to process experience through thinking, and not being ready to play the game until it's understood intellectually. It's not that type five cannot be involved, it's just that there needs to be clear boundaries and an escape route should the experience become too overwhelming. The preference is for thinking instead of doing. We call members of this Temperament - Thinker – Investigators. Temperament Five examples are: Bill Gates, Albert Einstein, Howard Hughes, George Lucas, and Karl Marx. These people long for wisdom, understanding, knowledge, truth. They want to make the world a more enlightened place by discovering what is real and true and making it more intelligible to others.

Temperament 9 – The members of this Temperament are withdrawing from doing for the self and sometimes stubbornly resistant against doing what others demand. There is confusion about one's own agenda and priorities. Doing is a tendency to go along with others' agenda. Yet, this member often has never really decided to go along, it's just a matter of going along until they figure out what they want or simply to keep the peace because they have no strong personal agenda anyway. The preference is for being instead of doing (in other words, doing without any purpose or goal). We call members of this Temperament - Peacemaker – Observers. Temperament Nine examples are: Barack Obama, Ronald Reagan, Abraham Lincoln, Jimmy Stewart, Carl Jung, and Dwight Eisenhower. These people want to feel at one with others and at home in the universe. They value peace, harmony, and unity. They envision making the world a more harmonious, ecumenical, and comfortable place to live for everyone.

For example:
Temperament Type 2 focuses of needs of others. Emphasize the uplifting aspects of life by looking on the bright side of things.
Temperament Type 7 focuses on their needs. Reframing their disappointment in some positive way.
Temperament Type 9 tries to focus on both their needs and the needs of others at the same time. The results are usually that they have trouble adequately fulfilling either.

Temperament Type 2
This Temperament Type overemphasis is on the need of others. They will neglect their own needs. They do this because they do not want appear needy. They do not want to appear disappointed or angry. They want to appear that they are a caring person. They want the world to see their good intentions.

Temperament Type 7
This Temperament Type overemphasis is on it’s own needs. They feel burdened by the needs of others. They do this because they want to avoid their own pain and emptiness. They do not want to see their role in creating suffering for themselves and others. They want the world to see them as positive, enjoyable, lots of activities, exciting and fun.

Temperament Type 9
This Temperament Type overemphasis is on their own needs and the need of others. They really do not want to deal with either. They do not want to see the problems with loved ones or their environment. They do not want to see their own lock of development. They want the world to see them as someone who see the positive qualities of other and of their environment. They idealize their world.



Temperament Two examples are: Bill Cosby, Alan Alda, Nancy Reagan, Dolly Parton, and Pat Boone. These people want to know they are loving. They want to nurture others and foster relationships. They value and are attracted to love. They envision making the world a more loving place to live.

Temperament Seven examples are: Robin Williams, Steve Jobs, Tom Hanks, Anthony Quinn, and Terry Bradshaw. These people want to enjoy life and experience all its possibilities. They value joy and variety. They envision making the world a more delightful place to live.

Temperament Nine examples are: Barack Obama, Ronald Reagan, Abraham Lincoln, Jimmy Stewart, Carl Jung, and Dwight Eisenhower. These people want to feel at one with others and at home in the universe. They value peace, harmony, and unity. They envision making the world a more harmonious, ecumenical, and comfortable place to live for everyone.

Why do we use numbers?

Names such as: Peacemaker, Mediator, Naturalist, Accommodator, Preservationist are commonly used to decribed the Temperaments Types. We use numbers instead of any names.

We use numbers to designate each of the Temperament Types because numbers are value neutral. They imply the whole range of attitudes and behaviors of each Temperament without specifying anything either positive or negative.

The numerical ranking of the Types is not significant. A larger number is no better than a smaller number.

No Temperament Type is inherently better or worse than any other. While all the Temperament Types have unique assets and liabilities, some Types are often more desirable than others in our society. You may not be happy with your particular Type. You may feel that your Type is “limited" in some way. As you learn more about all the Types, you will see that just as each has unique capacities, each has different “limits.”

People do not change from one basic Temperament Type to another. Some Types are more valued in our society than others; it is because of the qualities that society rewards, not because of any superior value of those Types.

The descriptions of the Temperament Types apply equally to males and females, since no Type is inherently masculine or feminine. Not everything in the description of your basic Type will apply to you all the time because you fluctuate constantly.

The teenagers of the Just Wait Teen™ program  are exposed to the information and research concerning their Happiness, their Temperaments, their Talents, their Attributes, their Gifts and how to maintain long term relationships. The Just Wait Teen™ program  is life enhancing program, not a substance rehabilitation program. Although its' objective is to give the teens tools and understandings to reach 21 years - substance free.

This Program was developed by the Just Wait Foundation a 501 (c)(3) nonprofit corporation to prevent drug, alcohol, and tobacco problems among teenagers. The Foundation provides one-year scholarships (two semesters) at a Community College or $1000 award to teens that completes the 4 year Just Wait Teen™ Positive Youth Development Program, obtains a GED, or graduates from high school - alcohol, tobacco, and drug free. The Just Wait Foundation has arranged to use of 80 acres to raise fruit and vegetables to finance the scholarships

We offer free training for any person or group that wants to start this program in their community.
