Insomnia and improper eating habits that may seem negligible can be symptoms of depression as the patient may be beset by anxiety and fear. It may be considered a warning signal when a person loses interest in hobbies and activities that they once found pleasure in. Instead, they sulk for hours and have the tendency to keep to themselves. Other symptoms of depression may be sudden weight loss or gain. Some people may find relief from depression by overeating thereby gaining weight yet others lose their appetite and may forget to eat as they may be too preoccupied with their distressing thoughts.
Mood changes such as sudden irritability and anger may be symptoms of depression that need to be addressed. Physically, symptoms of depression may manifest through headaches, digestive disorders and unexplained body pains. When in doubt and suspicious that a friend or relative may be suffering from symptoms of depression, it may be necessary to seek professional help. Once intervened in the early stages, depression can easily be treated. Depression is not merely emotional or psychological in nature but a chemical imbalance in the brain can likewise trigger it. Depression is a common disorder that can be treated with conventional and alternative measures such as therapy and medications as well as peer and family support.
But when left untreated and would worsen, depression can become incapacitating and could lead to suicide attempts. One must therefore be keen in ascertaining symptoms of depression to be able to seek measures to deal with the condition.
